Crochet Courses 2023
Overview
I teach crochet classes in Surrey and the surrounding areas. Covering a wide range of abilities from complete beginners to more advanced students looking for new and interesting crochet techniques. I have taught regularly at the Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre in Walton-on-Thames for 9 years. I’ve also taught for Surrey Women’s Institute and The Kennet Valley Guild of Weavers Spinners and Dyers, as well as teaching many students crochet on a one-to-one basis.
I run most of my crochet courses over 4 or 5 weeks with a maximum of 8-10 students per class. The 2 hour classes really enable the students to submerge themselves in the technique and create a substantial piece of work over the weeks. My classes all come with course notes and photo tutorials, practical demonstrations and of course, tutor guidance and advice throughout. Additionally, students enjoy the company, inspiration and often friendship that comes from being in the company of fellow crafters.
4 Week Beginners Crochet Course
A crochet course for:
- Complete beginners.
- Crafters that may not have crocheted in many years and would like to pick it up again.
- Those that are just starting off, maybe self-taught from a book or You Tube and want to make sure they are not picking up any bad habits!
I run this class twice a year on Saturdays, in September and January. These take place , at the Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre in Walton-on-Thames. Students learn all the basic crochet stitches as well as learning how to seam and sew pieces together for a finished project. Each session is 2 hours and includes detailed class notes and photo tutorials. I provide starter kits at an additional cost. I strongly advise my students to purchase this kit; using the incorrect or unsuitable hooks and yarn can greatly impede the learning process and enjoyment of this wonderful craft.
Riverhouse Hookers
The Riverhouse Hookers is a crochet group I founded in 2013, running weekly on Monday and Tuesday nights during term times. Every 5 weeks we explore and learn new crochet techniques creating many wonderful projects including clothing, bags and decorative items.
Crochet Day Courses
Most of my 4 or 5 week crochet classes can be condensed down into shorter, day courses. Usually these would be broken down into a 2 hour session in the morning, 1 hour lunch break and another 2 hour session in the afternoon, although I can tailor the classes if needed, to fit a different schedule. For my crochet day classes, I also provide class notes and devise a “mini-project” that allows the student to practice the particular techniques with a finished product at the end of the class.
Here are some of the crochet day classes I run. Please click on each for more detailed information:
- Learn to Crochet (Level – Complete beginners).
- Swedish Crochet Nålebinding – ancient Scandinavian crochet technique (Level – Basic crochet skills required).
- Learn Tunisian Crochet (Level – Basic crochet skills required).
- Tapestry Crochet (Level – Basic crochet skills required).
- Exploring Broomstick Crochet (Level – Basic crochet skills required).
I am able to provide all materials for the day courses, at an additional cost per student.
Although I currently mostly teach in Surrey, I am also willing to teach day classes in surrounding areas such as Middlesex, West Sussex, Berkshire, Hampshire and London. So, please get in touch if you’re interested in any of my courses or if you’d like to know my rates.
