FAQ

Q: Why is the course 4 weeks long?
A : I have seen many day classes and classes that are a couple of hours long, promising to teach you to crochet. Of course there are some that can pick things up very quickly, but a key element of learning to crochet is muscle memory… this is very difficult to achieve in a short, one off class. In fact, a large percentage of my students had previously attended these kinds of classes and not quite managed to commit the techniques to memory. My immersive courses allow you to go home and practice what you’ve learnt in class and come back to me the following week for help with anything you’re unsure of. This 4 week structure really allows the skills to sink in and stick!

Q: Do I need to practice between classes?
A : Definitely! Learning to crochet requires repetition to build muscle memory. Practicing between classes will enable you to get the most out of the course.

Q: I am left handed, what what are my options?
A: Although I crochet and teach right handed, I have taught many left-handed students. Crochet is a two handed craft which does rely heavily on the left hand. Right handed students have to learn to control their non dominant left hand so I always encourage you to start off giving it a go with your non-dominant right hand. Most of my left handed students end up learning right handed. If you find this too difficult you can switch to left handed. Although I cannot demonstrate, I am still able to talk you through the steps for making stitches and also spot & correct any mistakes. Please make sure you are happy with this, as I appreciate that I may not be the correct teacher for you if you already know you are very left hand dominant.

Q: I would like to attend your course but I am not able to make all the classes.
A : You can still get a lot out of the course, even if you have to skip some of the weeks, however,  Week 1 & Week 2 are mandatory. It’s very difficult for me to re-teach a whole missed class for one student and then fit in the content for the scheduled class. I have tried to do this in the past and ends up being unsatisfactory for the the student trying to catch up and also for the other students who didn’t miss a class. You will be sent class notes and videos (where applicable) for any classes missed and I’m happy to help via email/WhatsApp. The full cost of the course also applies, even if you can only make some of the classes.

Q: Is this class suitable for children (under 18s)?
A: This is not a straightforward answer, please click this link to read my full policy on teaching children.

Q: I do not need the starter kit as I have my own yarn and hooks.
A: After many years of teaching crochet to beginners, I have found that the hooks and yarn used make a massive difference to how easily the student picks up the technique and how much they enjoy the experience. Students that bring unsuitable equipment invariably end up frustrated so I have made the decision to provide and include all the materials in the cost of the course.

Q: I am a knitter. I’d like to crochet but I’m worried I won’t be able to.
A: Yes, I have come across this concern many times. There still seems to be a misconception that you either knit or crochet… of course you can do both! Often those with previous experience of knitting or other types of handicrafts can find picking up a new skill relatively easy.

Q: I use a wheelchair, is there wheelchair access to the studio?
A: Please check with The Guildford Institute.

Q: The dates of this course don’t suit me, will you be running another course and if so, when?
A: Yes, I run my beginners classes regularly. The best way to stay up to date with my courses is to sign up to my newsletter here: Mezzacraft Newsletter .

Q: What are your terms & conditions?
A: Please read our full terms and conditions here: Terms & Conditions

Crochet Winter Wreath Course – Walton-on-Thames – Starting 10/11/25

October 24, 2025 //  by mezza//  Leave a Comment

I’m running this Crochet Winter Wreath Course in the daytime at the Riverhouse Barn and in the evening at St. Erconwald’s – both in Walton-on-Thames. Please make sure you book the correct session.

Skill Level

For this course, students must be competent with basic crochet techniques, particularly double crochet (UK treble), single crochet (UK dc), counting stitches & pattern reading. All other stitches and techniques are taught in class. This is a great course for improvers as it will cover lots of different techniques.

Please note: this is NOT a learn to crochet course.

Crochet Winter Wreath Course Overview

  • Making “natural” elements such as fir cones, mistletoe, mushrooms and more.
  • How to make a wreath from scratch.
  • How to arrange and attach your elements.

Dates

This is a 3 week course, running on either Monday afternoons or Monday evenings:

  1. 10th, 17th & 24th November 12:30-2:30pm – Riverhouse Barn.
  2. 10th, 17th & 24th November 7:30-9:30pm – St. Erconwalds Church hall.

Cost

The course is £60 for 3 weeks. Materials are NOT included but I will have a kit available to purchase (price and contents TBC).

Class Format

All my classes come with detailed class notes and pattern. I provide samples and practical demonstrations of all techniques, helping and encouraging students with hands on assistance so that they can feel confident with their new found skills.

IMPORTANT: This is a new course and there is currently NO video content. I will have some very limited capacity during the 3 week course to create a couple of videos for specific techniques that students are struggling with. Therefore, please treat this course as an in-person only course.

Materials & Tools

Yarn: We’ll be using Catona Cotton because it comes in a great range of colours and is relatively good value. You’ll need natural foliage colours such as greens, brown for fircones, red and white for berries. I will provide more information closer to the time.

Hooks: 2.5mm – 3mm

Other: Scissors, wool needle, stitch markers etc.

Wreath : A natural twig wreath is my preference – it looks great and saves time. However, I will also show you how to crochet your own wreath.

Stuffing : Natural fibres are preferable (kapok), altenatively, repurposed stuffing from old cushions/pillows etc is a great choice. Please avoid buying polyester filling – it’s bad for the environment and bad for us.

Course Sign Up & Payment

Polite request: Many of my students work day jobs and are therefore unable to attend the daytime sessions. If you are free during the day, please consider booking the daytime, rather than the evening, so that more people have a chance to take part – thank you ♡

Bookings for the Crochet Winter Wreath Course are only secured with the receipt of a full payment. If you have any problems paying, please message me through the “Contact Me” page. Terms & conditions are here, including cancellation policy.
