For our next adventure, we’ll be learning about “Broomstick Crochet”. This is a fun & easy technique that works up quickly. After the first couple of weeks you will have built up enough skills in the technique to tackle something simple like a shawl or wrap or even challenge yourself with something a little more complex such as a garment. Either way, I’m sure you’ll be glad you tried this very enjoyable crochet technique.
We’ll be covering:
- The types of yarn that work best with broomstick crochet.
- Classic peacock eye stitch and straight stitch.
- Cross stitch and mountain stitch.
- Combining standard crochet stitches with broomstick.
- Increasing and decreasing.
- Seaming.
- Basic garment construction for those that are interested (drop sleeve sweater).
Skill Level
This is an easy crochet technique to master, but you must have basic crochet skills. Not suitable for complete beginners.
Duration: 3 weeks
Week 1: Monday 29th April 12:30-2:30pm
(no class Monday 6th May – Bank Holiday)
Week 2: Monday 13th May 12:30-2:30pm
Week 3: Monday 20th May 12:30-2:30pm
Venue
The Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre, Walton-on-Thames, KT12 2P
Cost
£54 (for 3 weeks, 3×2 hour sessions) – includes a 20mm broomstick needle but NOT yarn.
What to bring
All you need for the first class is some yarn – something easy to work with, such as DK cotton, but do also bring any other yarn you might have as this technique can look good in a variety of yarns. DK, aran, worsted or even a chunky yarn and colour changing yarn can also look great. There are lots of ways to experiment with this once you’ve got the hang of it. However, as usual, I would avoid black & very dark yarns as it’s difficult to see what’s what.
Please also bring a range of hooks suitable for the yarn you have… i.e. 3-4mm for DK, 4-5mm for worsted & 6-7mm for chunky.
Important – Cancellation Policy
Should you need to cancel, refunds for the course can only be given up to 14 days before the start of the course and are subject to an administration fee of £15. The cost of any materials ordered cannot be refunded. After this time, i.e. 15/04/2024, I am unable to issue refunds as I have already committed to the hire of the venue and the purchase of all course materials and it doesn’t leave me enough time to find a replacement student to make the course financially viable for me. Additionally, refunds are not given if you are unable to attend some of the classes. Of course, full refunds will be given in the event that the course is cancelled due to the venue or I cancelling the course. Thank you for your understanding.
